OWH Be My Valentine BLOGHOP

Welcome and I hope you've enjoyed hopping along and checking out all the great cards crafters from all around have made in honor of our troops.  Operation Write Home is an amazing organization that touches the lives of our Heroes and their families through handmade greeting cards.  If you haven't already checked them out do so HERE.

The challenge for the hop over on the Stars & Stamps blog was to make a Valentine's Day card.  The deadline to send your own handmade Valentine's Day cards to the shippers is January 7th.  Please do not send anymore Christmas cards since the deadline has passed!  They can always use your general themes and AnyHero mail!  No Glitter!!

Some of you may know and for those of you who don't, OWH made it into the final 3 for the Joann's Craft for a Cause Contest!  The winning organization will receive $50,000.  That's payment for a lot of boxes to be shipped to our Heroes!  Vote for them daily by clicking HERE.

OWH has also brought us a SPECIAL MISSION!  They teamed up with Archway and for every Valentine sent to your shipper by December 1st, they will match it with some sweet treats!  Read more about it on the Homefront Blog HERE

Okay, so enough with the chit chat.  Here's my card!

My Sweet Valentine
I used the Stampin' Up! Always set to create the hearts.  I used Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black cardstocks and Inks.  The embossing folder is the Sizzix Lattice from Stampin' Up! and the pearls and ribbon are from my stash.  I printed the sentiment off of my laptop.  Somehow, I have no Valentine's Day sentiments!

So you've read through my ramblings and checked out my card but now here's the fun part...BLOG CANDY!
BLOG CANDY!

50 Sheets of Cardstock!
40 Loopy Brads!
1 Sheet of Rhinestones!
2 Clear Stamp Sets!
6yds of Ribbon (2ea color)!

This is my first time offering blog candy and all you need to do for your chance to win is to leave a comment here telling us all what OWH means to you!  OWH means the world to me.  Not only does it give me a reason to make beautiful cards, it also helped my Hero keep in touch with home.  My husband sent home beautiful cards to myself and my children. It brightened their days and it's a keepsake we will always cherish!  You have until Sunday at 11:59 PST to comment!  Winner will be chosen by random and posted on Monday!

Next stop, Karen at Slightly Scrappy!

  6. Beautiful card and we are a military family from years ago. I wish we had OWH back then as I know what it would have meant to us to have received these beautiful cards from our guys stationed away from us. OWH offers an opportunity for me to do something for the men and women now protecting my family.

  7. Lovely card! I have only just found OWH but it makes me feel happy to be able to contribute in some small way to those who are out there keeping me safe here. I can only imagine how difficult it is for soldiers and their families to be apart and how much it means to hear from them or for them to hear from us. A heartfelt thanks to your Hero and to you <3 Lisa

  14. Oooh, I just love your card. I just recently started making cards for OWH. My husband is a disabled vet and we support our ongoing service members however we can. Our guys and glas didn't get cards back then, but it is sure nice to be able to provide for them now in any way we can.

  18. Wonderful card...I love the HIS and HERS hearts.
I just found OWH recently and it's a perfect way for me to show our heros how much I appreciate what they do to give me the freedom I enjoy. My husband was a Navy guy and I currently have a son at Clemson who is in the Army ROTC and is strongly thinking of continuing a military career after graduation. It's just an awesome way to show support.

  19. I was introduced to OWH by a service member who wrote to me and several of my students when we sent letters to Heroes. We enjoyed continuing to write, and when she got home she asked me to start making cards for the organization. I had never done card making before, but now it has become a passion. My friends and family tell me how proud they are of me for doing this. Lots of FEEL GOOD moments!

  20. Your card is just gorgeous! Oh, I love the colors and what you did with it. SO pretty! I love making cards for OWH! It means that I can make a difference in the lives of those that are fighting for me and my country. My uncle and cousin are in the Air Force, and we are so proud of them! Both of them are in the states right now, and it is wonderful to have them that close to home! But it means a lot to be able to send a little hope and joy and taste of home to those overseas!

  21. Beautiful card! As an Army mom with a deployed son and another about to graduate from Basic, OWH keeps me sane. It helps me dwell on the positives of military life and gives me an odd kind of connection to my sons even in all this separation. I would probably be a mess without OWH.

  22. Beautiful card. I was an Army brat. My dad was in the military for 25 years. I wish something like this would have been around then. People forget sometimes about the families of the military men and women that are serving and how lonely it gets for them when their loved ones are away on duty. Thanks for having this hop and for caring! I know this means a lot to a whole bunch of people!

  23. I love your card. I just recently found out about OWH, and started sending in cards. I don't have any family in the service but I feel this is a great organization. I will be putting V-day cards together to send off once I finish up my x-mas cards. Thank you for being a part of the blog-hop. This is the first one that I have been thru, and I'm loving all the cards.

  30. Beautiful card, and I'm with you, OWH means the world to me. I received my 1st OWH card from my youngest daughter while she was deployed to Iraq. I had never papercrafted before in my life and now.... I'm addicted.

  32. What a gorgeous card! Any hero would love to send this home to a loved one!

OWH has provided me a way to "pass it on" to others that are serving overseas. I made cards for my daughter's unit before I knew about OWH, and was very pleased that I could continue this service when my daughter came home. I can never repay all of the kindness that was bestowed upon my daughter while she was serving in Iraq, but at least I can give this little bit of cheer to others...something that I know really means a lot to all of these soldiers!

  33. OWH means support to me. Love and support.

  35. Gorgeous card, so elegant! I am always so excited to know that what we do really does make a difference to our heroes and their families. I have been lucky to hear directly from heroes/recipients about cards I've made and it's inspirational beyond words.

  36. I love your beautiful card. OWH is a great gift to families. I love that the heros are given an opportunity to write to loved ones. The written letter or note is becoming a lost art and OWH is helping to keep it alive.

  38. hi hon

i wish we had something like OWH in Germany, I think it is a wonderful way to support the heros that are leaving their families to help people all over the world. i think taking part and making cards for that amaing organisation is a great possibility to support the troups, even if you do not have a beloved one at the military.. does that make sense? sorry, no native speaker here.. Keep uo the great work!

  47. Thanks so much for sharing with us and it's so nice to meet a new crafter who is as passionate as I am about OWH (my husband is a decorated Vietnam veteran) and papercrafting. These men and women make the ultimate sacrafice in putting their lives on the line for all of us.

So nice to meet you! And please feel free to drop by my blog at http://lillianchild.blogspot.com/ sometime and say hi!

  48. I love the card and I am a fan of stampin up also. To me OWH means that even I get to do something that supports our troops. I will never be in physical shape to support our county as I have a genetic bone issue. I love to create, so this was a great way that I can share my love of cards but give those supporting us a way to send home a hug or a smile to those that are waiting for their return from defending our country.

  51. I'm a newbie cardmaker, having heard of OWH and wanting to be a part of this. We live near Ft Gordon in Augusta, GA and have met many current and retired military and contractors. Because of health issues, I don't work, but find great fulfillment helping others with my crafting skills. Today, our church signed over 490 AnyHero cards that I created digitally and printed out. We all want to help, we just need the opportunity. Please pick me, as I am just building my card-making toolbox and would love these goodies!

I have a passion for OWH because I love to make cards and it's such a great way to give back a little something to our troops. I challenge myself to send a box a month. No special number of cards just send a package each month.
